OOOOOOOH NO!!! THEY SAY HE'S GOT TO GO!!! GO GO ZORILLA!!!

Alright!  Welcome back my CRAZIES!!!  We are a little over a week away from the end of February, but just a week away from the start of something really cool!  But more on that later.  For now, we need to clear the air, and the room, so we can get ready for the coming excitement!  And I got just the critter to do that!  Enjoy...

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He sprays the dogs in your backyard down!!!

Oh no!  They say he's got to go!
Go go Zorilla!!!

The African cousins to the North American Skunk, the Zorilla is more closely related to weasels and other mustelids whereas skunks have more recently been placed in their own order/family, Mephitidae.  Regardless, both stink and both are not particularly appreciative of human interaction, so its best to just steer clear if you can!  Another theme from the Animal Alphabets collective, this one may have been my favorite to do in 2023.  I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it and had a lot of fun drawing it.  Being a lifelong fan of Kaiju movies, I knew I couldn't pass up an opportunity to add an atomic blast, achieved through colored pencils and thus making this a mixed media piece (The rest was colored with markers)!

And that's all she wrote for February!  Wait a minute, what's going on here?  There's still a whole week left in the month!  What gives?!?  Well, that's a wrap on the art for this month, and for a little while really, but there is a good reason for this.  If you'll check your calendars, y'all will notice a little thing called WonderCon is coming next month.  That's right folks!  Next week, the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown returns, with an extra week added even!  It's always so much fun to relive these past Con experiences with you awesome fans, so be sure to come back and help us start the celebration off right!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

DON'T TALK BACK!!!

We are back!  And already approaching the halfway point in February!  I know it feels longer but that Spring feeling is already hitting me!  Of course, when you live in San Diego, most days tend to already feel like Spring!  But enough about that, y'all came for some art (I've noticed the increase in views lately and I can't express my gratitude enough!), so let's get to it before we get trampled by the herd!  Enjoy...

Don't talk back, Yak!  Don't you EVER talk back, lest you want an attack from a brat with a tongue like a tack!  Yak's were the theme from this particular Animal Alphabets outing and I was largely inspired by the Shaving Yak from The Ren & Stimpy Show back from Nickelodeon's early-90's heyday.  The way they drew yaks always cracked my brother and me up as kids, so I just kinda ran with it.  Adding the sassy little girl was just a personal touch.  I have found memories of babysitting my cousins and niece when they were little and although I adored them all, they were real mouthy little turds!  Still, they were happy times and now they're all grown up and making their own way in this insane world...

Another one down as we march on towards March. But fear not!  Another piece of CRAZY art is a mere seven days away and this one will leave you breathless!  So be sure to came back and check it out!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

SINGIN' WITH A XANTU!!!

Welcome to February CRAZIES!!!  Hopefully y'all made it out of January no worse for wear and are ready for some Pink Halloween (Valentine's Day) snuggling!  That or eagerly awaiting the return of Shamrock Shakes if you're in my shoes (Hey, a guy needs something to look forward to, am I right?)!  We're going a little wild for the next few weeks as something big is on the horizon, but more on that when the time is right!  For now, let's go do some bird watching and see what we'll find, sound good?  Enjoy...

Well what d'ya know?  We spotted something right off the bat!  It's Xantu's Hummingbird!  A colorful little bird with its striking emerald head and prominent eye stripes, these guys buzz from flower to flower, sipping nectar while also helping flowers get pollinated!  Animal Alphabets over on Twitter (And now BlueSky too!) picked this bright little pal not too long ago as one of its themes.  It was a fun and simple draw, which I was thankful for.  It came at a really busy time!

Well, one week down in the year's shortest month that somehow always feels like the longest.  Late Winter has a way of making things drag on a bit I suppose, but that's not important now!  We'll be back next week with with new art that might have you singing, so be sure to come back and check it out!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

HE'S A MEAN ONE..

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  Are we really halfway to Christmas already?  My how time flies!  Well, we best not dawdle then as time is ticking!  Especially now that HE has been spotted in the area?  Who, you ask?  Scroll down and see for yourself!  Enjoy...

Yup.  HE is here and apparently Christmas just ain't enough for this grubby little scoundrel.  Now the Grinch has moved on to more lucrative dealings!  Mark my words, if Dr. Seuss were still alive, How The Grinch Stole My Stereo would exist today and be another holiday standard waiting to be inevitably ruined Illumination Studios!  If I remember correctly, this was a piece done for Animal Alphabets when they were doing their horror creatures theme.  I wouldn't consider the Grinch a creature, though Ron Howard certainly did his best to turn him into one!  Some things just weren't meant for live action.

Well, another week down as we get closer to our annual visit from the jolly old elf himself, but there's still a little fun to be had!  Santa's giving us all an exclusive sneak peek into his prep for the long night ahead, so be sure to come back and check it out! In the meantime, please think of others this holiday season!  Donate to food/toy/clothing banks ASAP!  One act of kindness can make such a difference in somebody's life.  Please perform that kind act if you can!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

NOSFERATU!!!

NEXT WEEK!!!  HALLOWEEN IS NEXT WEEK CRAZIES!!!  But this week we still got a guest to entertain!  He's enjoyed quite the resurgence in recent decades thanks to a certain cartoon sponge that appears on a network notorious for their poor treatment of creators, but that's neither here nor there!  He was gracious enough to appear this week at the CRAZYVERSE, so let's get to it!  Enjoy...

Count Orlok is here!  Often referred as Nosferatu, which ISN'T his actual name, the Count is actually among the earliest icons of the horror genre.  Largely forgotten as silent films began to get lost, it was a chance gag on an early-era episode of Spongebob that Count Orlok saw his star reignite!  Only problem is, we are now moving into a third generation of kids who think his name is NOSFERATU!!!  Eh, at least he was rediscovered.  As Meatloaf used to say, "Two out of three ain't bad!"

Well, that's four down and only one left to go as we get ready to scare the pants of a few people!  So be sure to came back next week and help get All Hallow's Eve off to a good start!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

METALUNA MUTANT MANIA!!!

We are almost there CRAZIES!!!  Halfway to Halloween!  And the call of turkey and sleigh bells aren't too far off either, but that's for another time!  Right now, these pumpkins we're made for carving, and that's just what we'll do!  We got another horror icon waiting in the wings and he's a bit blue that we haven't gotten to him yet, so lets get to it!  Enjoy...

The Metaluna Mutant!  An icon of early SciFi cinema, he's certainly got his fans.  So much so that there was actually a bit of backlash towards the MST3K crew when they riffed on it for Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie back in 1996!  If you take into account that A) It came out in the 1950's, a time when special effects were practically still being invented, and B) It was low budget to begin with, the movie was better than it had any right to be.  I feel MST3K's criticisms of story elements and such were fair, as it is cheesy as all get out.  But it's also one of the better films to get the Satellite of Love treatment and there were definitely more deserving titles out there.  I will say though, the film's low budget and inventing-wheel-still special effects are nowhere more evident than with the Metaluna Mutant.  I didn't just halfass the mutant's bottom half.  He LITERALLY looks unfinished in the movie too!  In someways, he set a trend.  Plenty of movie villains wear sweatpants now too!

Another one down as the Witching Hour gets closer and closer!  But before that can happen, we still gotta get through a few more posts, so be sure to come back and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

QUASI'S HERE! GET PUMPED!!!

We're back and getting more and more excited as the night of the pumpkin draws near!  At this point I'm hoping to have my yard display set up, but I've been seriously lagging in other areas lately, so, fingers crossed!  One of these days, I'll do an in depth post on how I put it all together and build the props, but that's for another day.  Y'all want art AND monsters, and I'm gonna deliver!  Our next CRAZY legend is here and ready to get spooked!  Enjoy...

No need to hunch over dear readers.  Quasimodo has entered the party scene and believe me, he is PUMPED for Halloween!  Few literary buffs realize just how practical Quasi's hunch truly is.  In addition to it supplementing his personality, it also servers as a crash pad and floatation device!  Yeah, I'm glad Quasimodo accepted our invitation.  The party was a bit flat without him!

Well, another week down as we get closer to the night of all things spooky!  But we still got plenty of fun left to be had, so be sure to come back and see who will show up next!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

ROCKIN' OUT WITH LUDO!!!

Welcome to October CRAZIES!!!  We're already deep into the Spooking Season, but now we're REALLY amping up the creepy factor as Halloween is that much closer!  And how is the CRAZYVERSE getting ready for the big day?  By inviting some horror legends to come get CRAZY with us!  Our first guest is even here already!  Who is it?  Scroll down and see for yourself!  Enjoy...

Hey hey!  It's Ludo, the gentle giant of Jim Henson's classic fantasy film, Labyrinth!  Granted, it's not a horror flick, but those goblins (Not to mention David Bowie's, er, Major Tom) gave quite a few kids nightmares back in the day.  Luckily, we all grew up to be well adjusted adults who now appreciate just how wonderful Henson's fantasy epics truly were!  Here, Ludo displays his amazing ability to command rocks.  Wonder if this means he can command THE Rock?  Guess we'll learn in the future when this movie gets inevitably remade!

Well, that's it for this week, but we'll be back next time with another legend of fantasy and horror as the CRAZY march to Halloween continues!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

WHY "SNOW" COLD, LEOPARD?!?

We are back as another month bites the dust, but it's all good as exciting times are on the horizon, but more on that later!  Might as well jump right into things here with the final critter of winter, so I hope y'all like it!  Enjoy...

Talk about a COLD shoulder?  This Snow Leopard's got an ICY stare that's CHILLING my very veins!  I'm literally FROZEN with fear by its FROSTY personality!  If these snow puns aren't doing it for you, I got plenty more, though perhaps my energy can be better spent elsewhere?  Much like the other three pieces this month, this was the product of the always fun Animal Alphabets on Twitter.  I won't lie, I took a very simple approach with this one, and yet, I really think it works.  Could just be me, but I was happy with the outcome, and lotta people on Twitter seemed to agree at the time.

And that's a wrap on February 2024, but March is promising to be a VERY fun month as the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown returns next week!  That's right folks!  Six weeks of past, present and even some future WonderCon coverage is seven days away and I am so excited to finally be sharing some of these pics with you fine folks!  So be sure to come back as the festivities begin!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

COOL AS A QUOLL!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  February's chugging along at a rapid pace here as Lent is now upon us.  I do enjoy fish and shrimp, so no meat on Friday's has never been that big of an issue for me.  I'm particularly looking forward to my first big catfish fry of the season, but enough about that!  The five or six of you that still actually visit this site when it isn't Comic Con-related wanna see some art and I got some!  So let's see which party animal has crawled in next!  Enjoy...

Meet the cool, calming Quoll, an animal I know nothing about, other than they look like spotted possums! I mean, I could Google it, but I'm just feeling kinda lazy right now, just like the Quoll!  I mean, look at it.  Does this look like a creature of industrious spirit?  I think not!  It was, however, easy to color and correct this piece, so these cute critters have my respect!

One more week to go before February heads into the history books, but fear not my dear CRAZIES as we will be ending the coldest month of the year with some art that will surely warm us up!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

THE SNOZZ KNOWS THE NOSE!!!

We are back CRAZIES!!!  And already at the halfway point in February!  Even in a leap year the month can't stretch out any further!  Know what can stretch though?  The truth!  Lies can be really long, just like noses, and our next subject has a honker that would've made Jimmy Durante blush!  So let's settle in and meet our next subject!  Enjoy...

HA CHA CHA!!!  THAT'S QUITE THE SCHNOZZOLA!!!  Not sure how many people younger than 50 will get that reference (Hell, there are people my age that probably won't get it!), but the Proboscis Monkey certainly knows his way around a nose!  Long and droopy, these poor monkeys always look kinda sad when they're eating, but at least they can smell how good their meal is!

Another week down for February, but more fun is in store, especially now that Shamrock Shake Season is starting!  About the only thing that makes Valentines Day worth it for me is the knowledge that McDonalds' delicious, minty, frozen green goo is coming back!  For now though, we'll just have to settle for more art, so be sure to come back next week and see what's next!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

THE ORANGUTAN IS A PAIN!!!

Welcome to February CRAZIES!!!  The most downer month of the year has passed and now we can really get to some fun stuff!  Well, fun if Mardi Gras is your thing, and for quite a few it is, but that's neither here nor there! We're not far off from the more cooler things ahead, but we'll get to that in due time.  Right now, some real party animals have shown up and are ready to get wild all month long!  So let's kick up our heals and dance with the wild things!  Let the rumpus begin!  Enjoy...

That's one sneaky simian!  Today's theme and this month's themes in general came from Animal Alphabets over on Twitter.  On this particular week, an Orangutan was chosen for the letter "O."  I took this opportunity to pay tribute to the most legendary resident of the San Diego Zoo, a rascally ape named Ken Allen.  His story was one of near tragedy that ultimately ended in triumph as he was rejected at birth by his mother and thus had to be raised by the zoo staff.  A most gentle creature, he took on many traits from his human cousins, notably the ability to unlock and open doors!  He escaped many times from his enclosure, but was so docile and tame, he would often just hang around and walk among the zoo guests, many of which thought it was a genuine routine!  The tourists may have thought it was all part of the show, but us locals would just kinda laugh go "Looks like Kenny got out again!"  Ken Allen passed away some time ago, but his gentle nature and wild spirit live on in the offspring he sired and the many hearts he touched in his lifetime.  I'm sure he keeps many an angel on their toes these days.

That's one week down in our March towards March that just happens to begin in February.  But fear not!  We got more animal antics coming from some CRAZY critters, so be sure to come back next week and see what's next!  Until then, take care, safe and I'll catch y'all later!

NOW YA SEE HIM...

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  We are getting closer and closer to All Hallows Eve!  I can almost smell the lit candles that signal glowing Jack-O-Lanterns!  But enough about that!  Art beckons!  Spooky art!  Suspiciously spooky art even!  Art so spooky, you're not even sure if you're seeing it or not!  Don't believe me?  Scroll down and see for yourself!  Enjoy...

See?  Told you this was suspiciously spooky!  I mean seriously, who still wears tights whities, the male equivalent of granny panties?  Another theme from Animal Alphabets, this time the Invisible Man gets his due.  I'm not gonna lie.  I totally took the easy way out with this piece.  Chances are good I was slammed at work when I originally drew this as October's typically my busiest month, so that likely played a part in this very minimalistic effort.  But I think the gag here really comes across well.  It's all in the eye of the viewer/reader when all is said and done.

Well, only one more week to go for our Halloween posts.  How will it end?  Find out next week when a certain squash known for potential generosity clashes with a man who's all arms!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later.

HELL'S A COMIN' WITH HIM!!!

We are back!  It's October, it's Autumn, the leaves are turning, pumpkins are being harvested and cider's being served up by the stein!  It's my favorite time of year CRAZIES, so let's dive right into this week's art so we can go out and enjoy more of the sights, sounds and tastes of the season!  Enjoy...

It's Hellboy, the demon spawn with a good heart!  The longtime staple of Dark Horse Comics made his big screen debut in 2004 and has since had a bit of trouble keeping things going in live action, including a failed reboot several years ago.  Another theme from Animal Alphabets, this one isn't one of my best if I'm being honest.  Muscular characters just aren't my thing, though I've found ways to adapt since then.

Another week down as we march towards Halloween, but fear not folks!  Still a couple more posts to go before trick or treating begins, so be sure to come back next time for some more spooky fun!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

THE SPOOKING SEASON IS HERE!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  We are well into Fall now and October has officially started which can mean only one thing: LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO BEFORE CHRISTMAS OVERKILL BEGINS!!!  Oh, and Halloween is upon us!  Yep, the holiday season has formally arrived as All Hallow's Eve kicks the season off, and we too will be getting the scary dealings started today as the CRAZYVERSE celebrates ALL things creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky and even altogether ooky, just like the Addams Family!  So sit back, relax, take a bite out of your candy apple and take a look at this week's art!  Enjoy...

Poor Edward Scissorhands.  His creator clearly meant well, but he seriously couldn't have used something not so sharp to make hands out of?  Like spoons or butterknives?  And don't even get me started with the bondage!  Starting to wonder now what he was really planning with his creation?!?  This week's art came from Animal Alphabets on Twitter.  The theme at the time was horror monsters, which makes this one a little weird as Edward wasn't exactly a monster, but I guess you could say he's a variation on the Frankenstein story.  This one was fun to draw though.  Certainly different from my usual funny animals and goofy kids!

Well, that's all she wrote for this week, but we'll be back next time for even more pumpkin spice-flavored spookiness, so be sure to come back and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

GAH!!! THAT FACE!!! THAT ADORABLE FACE!!!

Another week in CRAZIES!!!  We are creeping closer and closer to the month of creepy crawlies here as September will soon give way to the noble pumpkin!  'Course, if you've been to a craft, hobby or box store lately, it's been Halloween since July...  Christmas too!  I love the holidays as much as the next guy, but I'm all about moderation too.  When the time is right, I'll celebrate.  But dammit, when it's still surfing weather and I'm seeing Christmas displays already, a line's gotta be drawn somewhere!  But enough of that hoopla!  It's art time!  As Arsenio used to say, let's get busy!  Enjoy...

The Loris...  What may well be the most adorable creature ever, this cross between a monkey, cat and guinea pig deserves to be cradled and protected at all costs!  Just look at that face.  How can you NOT want to fight for its safety?  Our last Animal Alphabets entry for the month, this was their selection for the Letter L.  Needless to say, there was a LOT of adorable art posted on Twitter that day!  The "Please don't kill me" line was a nod to the legendary "Dr. X Telethon" skit from Mr. Show With Bob & David!  To this day it's still one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

Well, only one more post to go this month, but I'm sure what's left is something you'll wanna get your claws on, so be sure to come back next time and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

HOLY SMOKES!!! A JAVA JUNKY RHINO!!!

We are back CRAZIES!!!  And already approaching the halfway point of September!  Some of you are probably already sporting sweaters at this point, but not me!  If history's any kind of an indicator, it's probably still hotter than Hell in San Diego right now.  Then again, we just had our first hurricane warning last month, so what the hell does history truly know?  (Author's Note: These posts are written well in advance of their actual posting dates.  It could very well be freezing in San Diego right now, so who knows?).  Anyway, enough of the jibber jabber as Mr. T used to say.  Some of you actually want to see some art, and I intend to deliver!  Enjoy...

Hoo boy, a tweaked out rhino?!?  Guess we should be thankful that Javan Rhinos are the smallest of the living rhino species.  They are also one of the last two wooly rhino species left in the world today, along with the larger (But still smaller compared to their African cousins) Red Sumatran Rhino.  Still, any creature of substantial size hawked up on caffeine can be pretty dangerous if you get in their way!  Another one for Animal Alphabets, this time for the Letter J!  Rhinos are among my favorite creatures, so I was eager to illustrate this one!  Hopefully recent advances in breeding sciences will help these marvelous creatures continue on into the coming centuries and fuel even more imaginations the way they have fueled mine.

Another week down with two more to go in our September 2023 marathon here!  Be sure to come back next week as we spotlight another marvelous critter!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

ELEPHANTS ARE A GAS!!!

Welcome to September CRAZIES!!!  The season of pumpkin spice has officially begun!  Though I myself am not a big fan of coffee, I've got nothing but love for delicious hot chocolate and 'tis the season to drink it!  That and Jersey Mike's hot subs, but enough of that silliness, it's time for some art!  We got a swell stable of critters lined up this month, so let's open up the petting zoo and get started!  Enjoy...

Indian elephants...  Large, gentle, graceful...  And full of more gas than a congressman!  This was a part of Animal Alphabets' weekly drawing themes on Twitter (I don't care what the mealy-mouthed crotch pheasant calls it, it's still Twitter to me out of shear spite!), specifically the letter I.  It's low brow for sure, but dammit, elephants are vegetarians!  There's no way a creature that large eating that much raw plant materials WOULDN'T be farting up a storm!  Just feel bad for the fish!

That's all she wrote for this week, but be sure to come back next week as we spice things ups with a beast that's REALLY energized!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH!!!

Well, we've come to the end of another month and with the coming month brings another tradition, Guest Month for Bubble Fox!  This has no actual impact on the the blog, but I'm just really proud of the art I did announcing Guest Month!  It's a mix of markers and colored pencils that I feel comes off just right!  As far as the movie I'm referencing, kudos to anyone who gets it!  Anyhoo, we still got one more piece to share before we can let August 2023 ride off into the sunset, so let's get to it!  Enjoy...

That's right folks.  Honey, the coveted nectar of the Gods, is actually just bee vomit!  Hey, there are literally grosser things out there that people willingly eat!  Just think of it like Slurm!  Anyway, this was another Animal Alphabets piece, where the theme for the letter H was a Honeybee.  Since one of the bees was a little busy, I had another one come in and do the talking!

And that's a wrap on August 2023!  I do hope you all enjoyed the return of the art!  I have plenty more to share next month, so be sure to come back and help get September up and running on the right track!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR!!!

Another week down, another week closer to the fall!  I must admit, it's hard not to get excited about the coming season.  Aside from the holidays, I just prefer cooler weather!  It's a lot easier to stay warm than cool off I tells ya!  But enough about that, it's still summer time and I got some art to show, though it may be tough to get to!  Oh well, enjoy...

Poor Gorilla.  That banana is JUST out of reach!  'Course, now this begs the question of can gorillas even swim?  Like humans, they are primates, so in theory they should be able to.  But it's not exactly something they are known for.  Guess that's a question best left for Professor Google!  Once again, today's art came from Animal Alphabets where the theme for G was a Gorilla.  Apes are critters I don't draw often, and boy is it obvious why with this one, but I have gotten better with them.

Well, only one post left this month to hurl at you, but fear not!  I promise we'll end August on a high note, though it may not be a high brow one!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!
