WONDERCON 2022... THE RETURN!!!

And we're back!  Just over two weeks and counting as we prepare for WonderCon 2026!  Final preparations are already being made because if this year is anything like last year, I really don't wanna be packing the morning I leave again!  What can I say?  I was REALLY busy last March.  WonderCon came at just the right time!  Anyway, enough of that hoo haw!  You want pics!  I want to show you pics!  Supply and demand folks, so cap up those Code Red Mountain Dews and brace yourselves as we head back to the year 2022 and a rather unique convention experience as the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown sails on!  Enjoy...

We've entered a post-pandemic world folks, and that meant masks were still required for very large gatherings.  That didn't mean we couldn't have some fun with it still.  Why, Jack Sparrow here just made it part of the costume!  Sometimes you just need a little ingenuity!

Well these folks look like a wholesome couple!

Not sure that passed for an adequate face covering.

Bounty Hunters were hired to make sure the rules were followed.  Most complied with few incidents.

These R2 Units look like they are about to charge into battle!

Some rogue Cosplayers, including a couple of Kamen Riders, were ready for some Uptown Funk!

As you might've guessed, attendance at WonderCon at 2022 wasn't huge that year.  It certainly made for an easier experience as far as walking the aisles and getting some good booth scores went.  Things had actually improved drastically in California by that point, but it was largely up to the venues and the shows themselves if they wanted to implement mask policies.  WonderCon took the safe-than-sorry approach and I think it was the right call.

Ursula was looking for some poor unfortunate souls to make a deal with.  My voice wasn't very desirable apparently.

He's his own best friend!

Hard to believe this year marks a full decade since we lost the Starman himself, David Bowie. This Ziggy Stardust Cosplay seemed appropriate for this week's post.  It should also be noted that mask policies were largely indoors only that year, hence the reason you'll notice a lot of unmasked Cosplayers in outdoor shots.

If that weapon ain't allowed in the Mist Village, then it ain't gonna be allowed here too!

I forget what this was for, but the mural was really cool.  They'd had it at Comic Con Special Edition the previous November as well.  Also, the creator of Rainbow Brite passed away recently, so kudos to giving a nod to one of the 1980's most iconic characters.

With most of Cobra's soldiers having moved on, Cobra Commander decided to try and persuade the Rescue Rangers into joining his fold!  Needless to say, Gadget wasn't interested!

Finally, we end this week's post with some killer Kamen Rider Cosplay!  In recent years, the property's had a really big signal boost here in the States, which is wild as the original attempt at bringing it here, 1995's Masked Rider, was a HUGE flop.  So much so that the property's creator refused to let Saban Productions make further adaptations of it and even had it in his will when he passed away!  Talk about holding a grudge?  He was right to be mad though.  The American version was barely recognizable to its more action packed Japanese predecessor.  Luckily, thanks to a more open digital world, Western fans are starting to learn more about these awesome Tokusatsu shows without having to watch dumbed down localized versions of them.

And that was WonderCon 2022!  Certainly a very different show than what we had grown accustomed to, but that was the state of the world we were living in at the time.  Hopefully, we'll never have to go through something like that ever again...  And be much better prepared if we do.  As for the actual show, it was a lot of fun, with the real highlight being the awesome Tiki themed booth that Funko hosted!  It felt so good to get back out there and see folks again and connect with old friends.  It was like coming back to high school after the summer; just a bunch of catching up.

Well, another week down as we get closer to the big dance!  But fear not!  We got plenty of pics left, so be sure to come back next week and see where WonderCon 2023 takes us!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

WONDERCON IS BACK!!! NEXT WEEK!!!

Alright CRAZIES!!!  One week to go before WonderCon 2025!  Obviously, excitement is reaching a fever pitch here at the CRAZYVERSE, so I think it might be best to just get straight to the pics so that we can all kinda level out here.  Strap up those Rainbow Suspenders folks, because the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown is a go!  Enjoy...

The first big con post-Covid saw a lot of changes, namely masks being in play.  And you know what?  No cases appeared to be traced back to it, so I'll call that a success!  Also, LOTS of Spiderman variants that year!

Never realized Lydia Deitz had a bridesmaid and best man at her wedding!

Cannot begin to tell you how much I missed all the various cosplay mashups happening outside of the convention center.  It was a long three years between 2019 and 2022.  So thankful it's back now!

Of all the characters to do a sexy version of, Lord Farquaad certainly has to be among the most out of left field choices!

Since coming back from Covid, Bandai and their associated brands have really upped their game as far as their booths go!  Their SDCC setups in particular have been very impressive!

Startling that Disney owns BOTH of these properties now and that there is nothing legally stopping a Rocky Horror/X-Men crossover!

Belle was the Belle of the Con!

Mr. Oogie Boogie says you ain't goin' nowhere!  Until he's done with his Boogie Song!

The Penguin wants your vote!  Frankly, he's more trustworthy than some!

Always love it when families the extra mile with their cosplay!

Cool but crude!

Man, Orange County seriously needs to get their chemical dumping in check.  These grouchy, mutant, garbage monsters are becoming quite the nuisance!

Thorbowski abides!

Let's end things this week on an uplifting note with a gaggle of cosplayers dancing to Uptown Funk!

And that was WonderCon 2022!  It was a nice, if not low-key, return to normalcy.  Obviously, people were still very weary of things, and rightfully so, but overall, it was an enjoyable weekend.  In many ways, it felt like a family reunion.  As long as it had been since the last show, we all just fell back into it like no time had passed.

Alright folks, one week to go until WonderCon!  We'll be back a bit earlier than usual next week as I'll be busy getting ready and driving up to Anaheim!  So be sure to come back and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

WONDERCON 2024 IS HERE!!! BUT FIRST... WONDERCON 2022: THE RETURN!!!

IT'S HERE!!!  WONDERCON 2024 IS HERE!!!  THERE'S SO MUCH TIME AND SO LITTLE TO DO!!!  Wait a tic...  I gotta calm down, I'm getting all my words crossed!  But I just can't help it!  One of my favorite weeks of the year has arrived and I'm so excited that I just can't hide it!  I think the best thing to do is to simply go straight into this week's post, featuring even MORE pics for maximum enjoyment!

The year is 2022, the world is starting to finally rebound from a deadly pandemic and WonderCon is returning after a two-year hiatus.  Close that bag of Doritos and un-wedgie those Spiderman underoos because the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown is set to launch!  Enjoy...

The Nazgul beckons...

Guinan is one of Star Trek's coolest characters, and I'm glad she's getting cosplayed more often!

You never know who's gonna show up in the fountain courtyard for a photo op!

The road goes ever on...  Through the exhibit hall!

Not the most attended WonderCon of all time, but the world was still coming out of some dark times.  It made for easier travel through the exhibit hall and lead to some exclusives being more readily available than they normally would be.

Casey Jones left his Jose Canseco bat at home, but was still ready to fight if need be!

Ed was back and happily got the party started!

Jedi Santa used the force to raid the cookie shelves at Disneyland's bakeries that weekend!

This damn dirty ape put his hands on no one

Although plenty of big vendors go there, WonderCon has never truly done any big immersive booths like their sister show in San Diego does, but in 2022, Funko changed all of that.  Their set up was massive and attracted quite the crowd.  It was impressive to say the least and set the stage for an even BIGGER booth at Comic Con later that summer!

The Disney subsidiaries have come to play!

HE'S THE JUGGERNAUT, BITCH!!!

How good are these cosplayers?  My friend Amanda is the one in the middle, and I didn't even recognize her at first!  She truly is amazing!

Joel, you do a good cleaning up the place, not get over to Space Mountain!  We have some rockets that need cleaning!

Into the Spiderverse!

BARF!!!  No need to tarp up your Mercedes!

FEED MEEEE!!!

Very creative use of an inflatable here!

We'll cap things off this week with my old pal Austin Verburg, cosplaying as "Master Chef!"  He's really gotten into the cosplay scene and it's always fun to spot him out on the floor.  He's like a foot and a half taller than everybody too, so spotting him's not too hard!

And that was WonderCon 2022!  It was so great to return after several long years away.  I really missed walking the halls and seeing all the costumes.  The world's come a long way since then and I hope the rebound continues.  I need comic cons in my life!

And so it has come, WonderCon 2024 is here!  For those going, be sure to be kind and courteous to your fellow attendees.  While nowhere near as packed as Comic Con in San Diego, things can get frustrating at times.  It's always best to walk away from trouble rather than engage it.  Also remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring cash!  Cell/WiFi reception is garbage at the Anaheim Convention Center, so credit cards don't always go through.  Also, most vendors prefer cash because, well, it's simpler.  Most of all, just have fun and be sure to give Artists' Alley a look!  LOTS of hidden gems there waiting to be found.  I'll try my best to post updates on Twitter and BlueSky, but with the aforementioned spotty cell service, I'm kinda at the mercy of nature.  Regardless, I will be back next week with more past memories, so be sure to come back and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all at WonderCon!
