HAPPY 2026 CRAZIES!!! TAKE COVER!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR CRAZIES!!!  I'll keep things short again as it's New Year's Eve, we're all busy and I got pizzas and a non-sanctioned fireworks show waiting for me!  2025 was an odd year.  I can't ignore the shape of the world around me, or the fact that my day job seems to keep stalling despite 22 years of hard work and loyalty.  None of it is good, frankly, but it is what it is.  I'll just have to try harder to set things right.  On the flip side of things, I had an awesome time at both WonderCon and Comic Con this year, had some great days at the San Diego County Fair and even reached a few milestones with my art and comics.  Sometimes, a mixed bag is better than an empty one.  I pray that 2026 will be a better year, that somehow, some way, we can all improve ourselves and world around us, but more than that, I pray that humanity will find its heart again.  That logic and reason will dictate decision making instead of proclamations based on hearsay.  We are one people.  We need to remember that.

Have a fun, happy and ultimately safe New Year's Eve and Day folks.  Know your limits.  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all in 2026!

MERRY CHRISTMAS CRAZIES!!! BOTTOMS UP!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS CRAZIES!!!  I'll keep things short today as it's Christmas Eve and we're all pretty busy.  Bubble and pals got their tacky Christmas outfits on while Mike looks like he just punched a ticket for a lifetime on the Naughty List!  Some kids just can't help themselves!  Still, it's a festive setting and they look like they are having the time of their lives, as they should.  Christmas is a time for fun and festivities.  I hope you all have a fun, happy and safe Christmas tomorrow.  And for my friends who just celebrated Hanukah and my friends about to celebrate Kwanzaa, may your respective holidays be happy and fulfilling too!

Well, that's a wrap on Christmas, but not on December!  We'll be back next week with a 2025 finale that will hopefully get the New Year off to a booming start!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later.  Merry Christmas!

TOM TURKEY: CRAZIES DAY HERO!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  IT'S HERE!!!  THANKSGIVING IS FINALLY HERE!!!  So darn excited for the return of my favorite holiday!  There's so much to do, so much to prep!  It's funny to say because as I write this, we're still five days away from Halloween.  But I know that when this actually posts, I'll be up to my elbows in cornbread stuffing and pie dough!  It's a lot of work for sure, and I'm certain a lot of you are probably busy prepping for tomorrow as well, so why don't we just jump into today's toon and call it a week, sound good?  Great!  Enjoy...

All's well that ends well!  Tom Turkey survives for another year and Billy and Dorothy Brat are no longer flattened!  They also now have bodies that are as inflated as their egos and are the leading "Floats" in this year's CRAZIES Day Parade!  And you all probably thought Ol' Tommy wouldn't help them.  For shame!

And so ends another tricky tail of Tom Turkey.  Next year will likely be the final edition as I'm just plain running out of things to do with these guys.  That isn't to say they can't come back in the future if something else pops up!  Ultimately, I'd like to collect these all in a volume as a bit of a graphic novel/picture book hybrid.  It's high time Thanksgiving FINALLY get some multimedia respect with the other holidays! Until next year, google on Tom Turkey!

Well, that's a wrap on November, but never fear!  You know we got some holiday fun brewing up for Christmas, so be sure to come back next week and help us kick off December properly! I would also like to remind you, dear readers, again to please think of those less fortunate this holiday season.  It doesn't take much to help others in these dire times.  Please donate to food, clothing and toy drives if you can.  Even a quarter in a Salvation Army Bucket can make a difference.  Giving is a gift in its own right and the more we share, the better we can be.  Until next time, take care, stay safe and have a very happy, fun and safe Thanksgiving!  Oh, and may fate smile kindly upon you on Black Friday!

TOM TURKEY: TO THE RESCUE!!!

We are back CRAZIES!!!  One week to go before the big day!  Well, one week and a day, but if you're like me, you're probably gonna be starting some of your cooking early.  What can I say?  Thanksgiving week, time really is a luxury in my kitchen!  But now's not the time for that.  Now is the time for comedy!  Cartoon comedy!  And we have an especially high dose of that today!  Don't believe me?  Then scroll down and look!  Enjoy...

Boy, those poor Brat Twins sure look depressed.  Or is is that compressed?  Either way, good Ol' Tom Turkey is there to help them and I'm sure his plan is very uplifting!  Be sure to come back next week and see how it all wraps up!

Well, one week left in November, but fear not!  We're ending the month on a high note and sending you into Turkey Day with a belly full of laughs, so be sure to come back and check it out! I would like to remind you, dear readers, again to please think of those less fortunate this holiday season.  It doesn't take much to help others in these dire times.  Please donate to food, clothing and toy drives as they open.  Even a quarter in a Salvation Army Bucket can make a difference.  Giving is a gift in its own right and the more we share, the better we can be.  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

TOM TURKEY: A SMASHING REVELATION!!!

Back again CRAZIES and halfway to Turkey Day!  I don't know about y'all, but I already have a good selection of Joel-Era episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 picked out for my own custom Turkey Day Marathon!  It was one of my favorite parts of childhood before Comedy Central ended it.  Thank God for DVD!  Anyhoo, I'm sure y'all are more interested in seeing if Tom Turkey will escape the Brat Twins' latest trap!  Granted, it's not their most elaborate attempt to capture the wily bird, but those two are completely out of their minds, and sometimes, that's dangerous enough!  Don't believe me?  Scroll down and see for yourself!  Enjoy...

How did Tom Turkey escape this time?  Through sheer dumb luck!  Seriously, he wasn't even trying to evade the boulder nor was he even aware that it was coming!  Can't say I blame him.  Kennedy Half Dollars are pretty rare these days! (Based off the good Kennedy, not the insane one!)  Of course, that boulder's gotta land somewhere, and it's trajectory doesn't look particularly promising for Billy and Dorothy...

Ooh boy...  Talk about leaving an impression?!?  Looks like it's the Brat Twins that got flattened out!  Who'd have thought that rather benign dead tree in the background of the first page would have so much give?  AND torque?!?  Have the Brat Twins FINALLY met their match or will they have a Plan Z waiting for Tom Turkey?  Come back next week and find out!

Well, two weeks down, two more to go as we march towards Thanksgiving, but don't sweat! we still got more fun with Tom Turkey and the Brat Twins coming up, so stay TOONED!!!

DON'T TALK BACK!!!

We are back!  And already approaching the halfway point in February!  I know it feels longer but that Spring feeling is already hitting me!  Of course, when you live in San Diego, most days tend to already feel like Spring!  But enough about that, y'all came for some art (I've noticed the increase in views lately and I can't express my gratitude enough!), so let's get to it before we get trampled by the herd!  Enjoy...

Don't talk back, Yak!  Don't you EVER talk back, lest you want an attack from a brat with a tongue like a tack!  Yak's were the theme from this particular Animal Alphabets outing and I was largely inspired by the Shaving Yak from The Ren & Stimpy Show back from Nickelodeon's early-90's heyday.  The way they drew yaks always cracked my brother and me up as kids, so I just kinda ran with it.  Adding the sassy little girl was just a personal touch.  I have found memories of babysitting my cousins and niece when they were little and although I adored them all, they were real mouthy little turds!  Still, they were happy times and now they're all grown up and making their own way in this insane world...

Another one down as we march on towards March. But fear not!  Another piece of CRAZY art is a mere seven days away and this one will leave you breathless!  So be sure to came back and check it out!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

HAPPY NEW YEAR CRAZIES!!! FOR BETTER OR WORSE...

Happy New Year CRAZIES!!!  I'll keep things brief again as we all got a lot going on today no doubt.  Obviously, a lot of us aren't feeling too hopeful about the future right now, and for good reason.  I don't know what lies ahead for sure, but I know that no matter what happens, I will continue to publish my art and my comics.  I know that I will continue to work hard and earn an honest living.  I know that I will try my best to be there for my family and my friends when they need me and I know I will try my best to be a good person.  There are a lot of bad things in the world right now.  Some of it will never go away, sadly.  But if we as a people find ways to better ourselves and not let hatred keep winning, then we can turn things around and we will turn things around.  Never lose hope and always strive to do what's right.  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later.

MERRY CHRISTMAS CRAZIES FROM YOUR FASHIONABLE CRAZY PALS!!!

Merry Christmas CRAZIES!!!  I'll keep things short this week as we're all pretty busy today!  The CRAZYVERSE's biggest stars have come out in full force (And sporting their ugliest holiday threads) wishing that your day be very happy, your tree's lights be the brightest and your stockings be filled to the brim with goodies and treats!  Take care CRAZIES and I'll catch y'all next week.  Merry Christmas!

THE ORANGUTAN IS A PAIN!!!

Welcome to February CRAZIES!!!  The most downer month of the year has passed and now we can really get to some fun stuff!  Well, fun if Mardi Gras is your thing, and for quite a few it is, but that's neither here nor there! We're not far off from the more cooler things ahead, but we'll get to that in due time.  Right now, some real party animals have shown up and are ready to get wild all month long!  So let's kick up our heals and dance with the wild things!  Let the rumpus begin!  Enjoy...

That's one sneaky simian!  Today's theme and this month's themes in general came from Animal Alphabets over on Twitter.  On this particular week, an Orangutan was chosen for the letter "O."  I took this opportunity to pay tribute to the most legendary resident of the San Diego Zoo, a rascally ape named Ken Allen.  His story was one of near tragedy that ultimately ended in triumph as he was rejected at birth by his mother and thus had to be raised by the zoo staff.  A most gentle creature, he took on many traits from his human cousins, notably the ability to unlock and open doors!  He escaped many times from his enclosure, but was so docile and tame, he would often just hang around and walk among the zoo guests, many of which thought it was a genuine routine!  The tourists may have thought it was all part of the show, but us locals would just kinda laugh go "Looks like Kenny got out again!"  Ken Allen passed away some time ago, but his gentle nature and wild spirit live on in the offspring he sired and the many hearts he touched in his lifetime.  I'm sure he keeps many an angel on their toes these days.

That's one week down in our March towards March that just happens to begin in February.  But fear not!  We got more animal antics coming from some CRAZY critters, so be sure to come back next week and see what's next!  Until then, take care, safe and I'll catch y'all later!

PLANET OAT, AS PLAYED BY A SPHERICAL UNICORN!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  We are past the halfway point of January CRAZIES!!!  And THAT much closer to the XFL, Shamrock Shakes and WonderCon!  I tell ya, I am excited for the coming year!  Sure, there'll be challenges, but I know we'll all face them head-on and be all the better for it!  But enough about the future.  Our minds have to be tuned into the present as well, and right now, my mind is on unicorns!  A unicorn that belongs to a little girl named Phoebe to be more precise!  Which unicorn is that?  Scroll down and see!  Enjoy...

Those pesky unicorns.  Always in the LAST place you'd think to look!  In recent years, I've devoted Fridays to doing Fan Art for friends and artists I really admire, and among the many that I hold in high regard is Dana Simpson, the creator of the beloved comic strip Phoebe And Her Unicorn.  Dana was a pal on Twitter for many years and a very encouraging type, so I always try to throw some Fan Art her way when I can.  She had recently done a storyline where Phoebe and her unicorn, a rather pompous mare named Marigold, played a game called "Planet Oat."  The point of it was Marigold played the planet and Phoebe had to find her, only, she couldn't!  In the end, it turned out Marigold had been turned to stone by a Gorgoncorn and in fact needed rescuing, which, as far as left turns go, definitely goes down as one of the wildest!  At the time though, I had laughed about it and said "Wouldn't it be a hoot if all Phoebe had needed to do was simply look up the whole time?"  Well, my concussion-addled brain started spinning, and out came this art!  Dana, thankfully, loved it and agreed it would've been a funny twist.  She also loved the Lord Splendid Humility Easter egg I planted in the background too!

Well, only one more week to go in our CRAZY Inflation Buster Special, but fear not!  We won't leave any of you feeling deflated.  We're floating off on a high note with some gut-busting laughs, so be sure to come back and see how it all ends!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

THE CRAZY INFLATION BLOWOUT: REVENGE OF THE LOONS!!!

Well, here are, the end of January.  Well, post-wise we are as there's still a few days left.  But it'll be February by the time this blog comes back!  But enough about that though.  Today is all about lightening the load and pumping in some laughs.  With inflation raising concerns globally, I've decided to remind folks that there is a lighter side to this pressure that's building up!  Don't believe me?  Scroll down and see what's floating your way!  Enjoy...

Uh oh kids.  It looks like the balloon animals are fighting back!  Years of being inflated and twisted into warped playthings for ungrateful brats that so callously pop and discard them has left these Loonies with a twisted sense of revenge!  Hopefully they'll be a little more merciful to these puffed tykes than they ever were to the poor loons!  Time will only tell!  Today's art once again comes from Animaloonies on Twitter.  The theme for December 2020 was "Kidloons,' which would go on to become one of their most popular themes ever.  I guess a lot of us had pent up anger towards bratty kids that we just needed to get out of our systems!  All the kids in this piece had appeared in previous Animaloonies themes where they themselves callously inflated some poor animal, so for this piece, it was all simply payback.  I guess revenge is a dish best served inflated!

And that's a wrap for January 2022!  Hope you all enjoyed this expanded look at the lighter side of inflation!  Next month will see some old pals who are coming out of retirement to celebrate yet another anniversary as the demented duo, Mike & Mindy, return!  All month long we'll be seeing guest art provided by quite a few CRAZY pals from all over the world!  See be sure to come back and see how it all kicks off!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

THE CRAZY INFLATION BLOWOUT: BIGGER AND BADDER!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  After a one-week break, the art has returned and in a very big way!  As we all know, inflation is a rising problem in America and many nations around the globe as finances remain stressed.  In the cartoon world though, inflation is an endless source of hilarity and amusement and has become one of the hallmarks of CRAZY!  So starting today and for the rest of this month, we'll be highlighting the lighter side of inflation with a series of larger than life pieces I've done in recent months that'll hopefully let some of the air out of this high pressure situation!  I think you will all find it a very enlightening experience!  Enjoy...

The Big Bad Wolf...  A serial huffer and puffer who didn't take into account that Little Red Riding Hood kept a bike pump in her basket for Grandma!  He certainly got his fill this time!  Might have to start calling him the BLIMP Bad Wolf from now on!  Today's art came from a Twitter collective known as Animaloonies.  Founded by my dear friends Nora, Poppy and Valentina, each month, they pick an animal and put it out there for artists around the world to draw comically inflated!  It's a very fun collective to take part in and obviously a natural for me given the often surreal nature of my artwork.  And contrary to popular believe, I had NOTHING to do with it's creation!  It is all just a wonderful coincidence!

That's all for this week folks, but be sure to come back seven days from now when we blow something else up real good!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

WELCOME TO THE HOLIDAYS!!! WATCH YOUR STEP!!!

Welcome to December CRAZIES!!!  Last month of the year and among the most festive times of the year!  Christmas is certainly looking more traditional this year than last, and will hopefully stay that way!  I'd like to say that Comic Con Special Edition was totally badass, but as of this writing, it hasn't happened yet!  It will certainly be different, but I'm confident it was an awesome time and I promise pics WILL be coming in January, meaning my blog will finally get noticed again!  But enough about that.  We're in full Holiday mode here at the CRAZYVERSE and are kicking things off right with some really gross art!  Enjoy...

Kids usually want the moon and then some for Christmas.  Quite a few are privileged enough to have their every whim catered to even.  But regardless of societal status, few kids ever truly think their gift list through, like the little girl who pined for a hippopotamus for Christmas.  Sure, it would be cool to have one as a pet...  Until you have to clean up after it!  You think scooping dog poo is degrading?  You're really gonna turn red after your friends see you shoveling hippo crap into a wheelbarrow!  Yeah, I think I'll stick to smaller, more legally attainable pets from here on out.

Week one of December is down!  What does next week hold?  You'll have to come back and see for yourself!  But I promise it'll be fun!  As always at this time of year, please think of others and help out those in need.  Donate today if you can!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

BUBBLE FOX AND TOM TURKEY: REACHING NEW HEIGHTS AND NEW LOWS!!!

We've come to it at last: THANKSGIVING WEEK!!!  I've written this weeks ahead of today's actual posting, but I know I'm excited as all get out!  Aside from my favorite holiday being tomorrow, I know that I'll also be somewhat busy setting up Comic Con Special Edition, which begins Friday!  It's scaled back compared to the regular summer show, so I probably won't get the hours I usually do setting it up, but it should still be enough that I can actually not sweat the December slowdown that's coming.  Hopefully I also won't be dragging my feet on the art front like I have the last two months and have everything queued already by the time this actually posts!  But enough about that.  Bubble and pals bloated into grotesque parade balloons isn't enough to satisfy your artistic needs today.  Y'all crave substance too, and I am gonna deliver!  So scroll down and see if Tom Turkey managed to pull off another victory this year!  Enjoy...

That wily bird always manages to stay a few steps ahead!  Billy and Dorothy might wanna switch to ham next year.  Ol' Tom Turkey clearly has their number!  But the Brat Twins and common sense are like oil and water.  After they get out of that mud and clean up, they'll likely got right back to scheming on ways to get that turkey in their bellies!  What does the future hold?  You'll have to come back next November and see!

That's a wrap on November of 2021!  But don't feel too sad.  We're kicking off our Christmas fun next week!  Is there really any better way to literally start the first day of December?  Of course not!  So come back and let the holly jolly begin!  As I've said in recent recent weeks, plenty of donation centers are open now and all looking for donations for those in need, so please help if you can!  For those heading out for Black Friday shopping, please be safe and courteous.  After more than a year of being cooped up indoors, people are more on edge than ever, so please let kindness reign supreme this weekend.  I would urge the same for those attending CCSE this weekend.  It's a smaller show and, as of this writing, isn't even sold out yet, so everybody should have plenty of elbow room this time around.  And even if we don't, just be patient and understanding and follow safety protocols.  There's no reason why can't have a fun and safe time at all functions this weekend.  Until next time, take care, stay safe, have a VERY Happy Thanksgiving and I'll catch y'all later!

TOM TURKEY: FASTER AND MORE FURIOUS!!!

Hello CRAZIES!!!  One week!  We are ONE WEEK away from Turkey Day, aka, Thanksgiving!  But, as excitement mounts, I must remember that preparations are underway not just for the holiday, but also for the coming of Comic Con Special Edition!  After more than two years, I'm finally gonna get to go to a major Comic Con again!  It's not gonna be as big as the regular summer show, probably more akin to WonderCon in Anaheim, but it should still be fun and could be a big thing for San Diego if it takes off, especially for stagehands like myself who don't get much work during the last five to six weeks of the year.  But more on that next time.  Right now, our focus is on Tom Turkey and his battle with the Terrible Tykes!  Last week, Tom exposed Billy and Dorothy's weak spots to the world, along with their unmentionables!  Has Mr. Main Course gone too far?  Scroll down and find out!  Enjoy...

Well, he has certainly got their attention now!  Tom seems pretty confident, but humans as a rule tend to be faster than turkeys!  The Brat Twins have been after this prized poultry for three years now and finally seem to have him within their grubby grasps!  Could Ol' Tom Turkey finally be heading to the dinner table?  Come back next week for the potentially messy conclusion of the current chapter!

That's all we have for this week, but be sure to come back next time as we conclude Tom Turkey's latest adventures as well as send November off on a VERY high note with Bubble Fox and pals!  In the meantime, be sure to give to those in need this holiday season as donation centers are now open!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

TOM TURKEY: SCARING THE PANTS OFF BULLIES LEFT AND RIGHT!!!

We are back CRAZY faithful!  The countdown to Thanksgiving is on at 15 days and counting!  I'm currently stretching all of my clothes out to allow for maximum capacity come dinner time on the night of Turkey Day itself!  But enough about that.  You clearly came to see what Tom Turkey's gonna do next and I intend to deliver!  So scroll down as we move on to the appetizer course now that everyone has arrived and taken off their coats!  Enjoy...

Huh...  And all this time I thought that getting your pants scared off was just and expression!  The Brat Twins' pants weren't only scared off, they were scared stiff even!  This is why you gotta go easy on the starch in your laundry!  Dorothy and Billy were looking for revenge, but Ol' Tom Turkey found them first!  Are the Brats about to get bopped or has this wily bird gobbled up more than he can waddle?  We will find out next week!

And that's it for this week, but fear not!  More Tom Turkey tomfoolery is coming up next time, so be sure to stop by and take a look!  In the meantime, please donate to needy causes this holiday season.  Food, toys and clothes are greatly appreciated and help more than you can imagine!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

TOM TURKEY IS BACK!!! GOBBLE GOBBLE!!!

Welcome to November my CRAZIES!!!  Boy what a difference a year makes!  Things weren't looking too good this time last year, and while we still got a ways to go, much progress has been made in this battle against the virus.  Fingers crossed that the good news keeps coming!

As many long time readers can attest, I am absolutely FANATICAL about Thanksgiving!  The food, the family, the parade, the MST3K Marathon... I love it all!  Turkey Day has long been my favorite holiday, though most of society treats it as "Gift-less Christmas" these days.  But here at the CRAZYVERSE, we treat this holiday with the utmost respect that it truly deserves, and starting this week, we have yet another exclusive tale starring that angry bird, Tom Turkey!  Those Brat Twins are back and looking for even more revenge after Tom first turned them into child dirigibles and followed that up by turning them in child projectiles!  The war is far from over as we catch up with the turkey and giblets!  Enjoy...

Well, Billy and Dorothy are back to normal size after spending an extended period of time inflated beyond belief.  And those once scrawny bellies of theirs can probably handle a bird as big as Ol' Tom is now that they've been stretched!  Tom doesn't seem too concerned.  What ace does he have up his feathered sleeve?  We'll have to come back next week and see!

That's all for today folks, but the story's just getting started!  Be sure to come back next week and see what Ol' Tom Turkey stirs up next!  In the meantime do take care and maybe think of others as the holiday season approaches.  Many shelters, food banks and toy drives are already open and looking for donations and every little bit helps.  Even some loose change in the Salvation Army bucket makes a big difference, so give today!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

PRETTY IN PINK!!!

We are back and it is the exact halfway point through September!  It seems the older I get, the fast time seems to pass.  Wish all the associated bull crap we are all going through would pass just as quickly, b ut that's neither here nor there.  Y'all want some art, and I just happen to have some!  So let's go!  Enjoy...

Flamingos. Big, pink and oh so smelly!  A zoo ain't a zoo without a flamingo pond, and you always know when you've arrived there when smell hits you at the front gate!  Even a few hotels and theme parks keep them on hand for visitors.  Knott's Berry Farm even had a flamingo pond once upon a time!  Today's art is from Weird Pets Week, a Daily Doodle theme from November of 2014.  There's no real story behind this piece.  Just something I did on the fly really.  For the last few years, a wayward flamingo has been making the salt flats of Imperial Beach his spring/summer home.  Considering that flamingos AREN'T native to the Pacific Ocean, it is quite the head scratcher that this colorful bird somehow wound up here.  Nobody knows how he flew so off course, but he's been a welcome visitor ever since.

That's all she wrote for this week, but we'll be back next time with some art that you'll really get a squeeze on!  So be sure to come back and see!  No pressure though!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

SISTER'S SLEEPY SLOTH SLEEPS SLOVENLY!!!

We are back!  How back are we?  Well I just said it didn't I?  Isn't that good enough?  It's not?!?  Alright, fine!  I guess I'll have to post some art then.  That ought to prove that we are in fact back and not just imagining things!  So let's get the ball rolling!  Enjoy...

Funny.  Usually it's the pets that pick up bad habits from their owners, not the other way around!  This is another piece from the Daily Doodle's Weird Pets Week from November 2014.  This particular day's theme was a sloth, so it just seemed like a natural to have it involve some silly sleeping!  Sloths are actually pretty darn adorable if you've never seen one up close, especially baby sloths.  They literally just sleep all day!  Can't imagine them being all that difficult to raise and take care of.  They're like living plush toys!  I had hoped to paint the backgrounds of this one using watercolors, but chickened out.  It's a new medium I'm trying and need a bit of practice with still, so I just Photoshopped the background colors in.  Paint Bucket's a marvelous tool for cartoonists just looking to do something quick and flat!

That's it for this week, but come back next Wednesday as we celebrate the halfway point of September with a particularly colorful bird!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

OH MARY VIOLET...

Well, we've come to the end of another month, this time April.  With any luck, I'll be fully vaccinated by now and looking to possibly head back to work soon.  Much is still left uncertain, but hopefully, things are still looking up.  Wanna know what gives me a sign of hope?  More silly fan art of course!  And today I'm honoring one of my heroes of cartooning, the brilliant Jimmy Gownley!  So scroll down and see what's in store for today!  Enjoy...

Oh dear.  I don't think the Pork Chop Express stands a chance against Mary Violet with mystical powers.  She's formidable enough without them!  Today's honoree comes from the wacky world of Amelia Rules!, Jimmy Gownley's awesome comic that celebrates childhood and all its wonders and complexities, especially the more surreal aspect of it.  And no character from the series is more surreal than Mary Violet, the mousy, pale and constantly trodden upon little girl who has a knack for bad timing.  Whether she's being slammed, burned, run over or flattened by medicine balls, this kid could give Wile E Coyote a run for his money in a cartoon survival contest!  At one point, she joins a super hero club where she finally just lets out her pent up frustration and the results were some of the funniest panels ever drawn.  When I was thinking about which comic character would make a good Lopan, the villain of the 80's cult classic Big Trouble in Little China, Mary Violet was the natural first choice.  I've long been a fan of Jimmy Gownley's work.  I came across it by accident at Comic Con one year when one of his book covers caught my eye.  It was a hilarious image of the AR cast careening off a cliff in a go-cart that had me cracking up.  I picked up the book and fell in love with the series immediately.  I myself was a very young cartoonist at the time, not sure what direction I wanted to go in.  Kids and humor comics weren't getting much traction, so I was afraid to show my work, but when I came across AR, it gave me the confidence to throw caution to the wind and make comics for all ages.  It's been a fun ride ever since and I'll always be grateful to him for that.  I've been lucky enough to meet Jimmy a few times and he was very nice and courteous and his wife Karen has become a very good friend on Twitter.  They're proud union folks like me and I can't wait to see what they have in store down the road.  I'm also thankful their kids finally forgave me for that pony thing!

And that's a wrap on April 2021!  I hope you all enjoyed the fan art this month.  With no cons happening again this year, it's been fun putting together themes based on past art I haven't posted past Twitter yet.  Be sure to come back next week for some more CRAZY fun!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!
