WONDERCON 2023... STILL LOADING...

*Sighs* Well, WonderCon 2023 has passed.  And it was...  I haven't a foggy clue?  I write these posts well in advance of their actual post dates, so I have no idea yet just how cool things were or weren't?  I'm willing to roll the dice that it was a really cool show, but I can guarantee that when this post does eventually hit, I'm gonna be really tired!  So how's about we give Future Jon a break and just launch right into this look back at last year's WonderCon?  Enjoy...

Funko went all out in 2022 taking up half an exhibit hall with their massive booth/experience.  Little did we know they'd really top themselves at SDCC four months later!

Riddle me this: Who had a killer Riddler costume at WonderCon?  Look directly above the text for the answer!

Moon Knight was there celebrating his Disney+ show!  He seemed to really luck out on his fountain shot given the lack of crowds!

We're a Beetleborg, Mystic Knight and VR Trooper short of hitting the Saban Brands Jackpot!

Rainbow Brite is still finding ways to make the world more colorful!

The Heartbreak Kid ain't NOBODY'S boy toy!

Nanu nanu, Mork!

COBRAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Oh how I'd LOVE to have all these awesome Tokusatsu toys and collectibles.  But I have no first born to barter with at those prices!

This may be the coolest family cosplay ever!  Loves me some CLASSIC Looney Tunes, with the keyword here being CLASSIC!!!

Hygiene is very important, especially in this post-pandemic world.  We should all thank Ernie for reminding us of that!

Dr. Jones?  Son's in trouble again!

Sorry girls, haven't seen any missing shoes, let alone glass ones!

And finally, M. Bison was in attendance and trying to peddle off his goofy currency on all the attendees.  His Bison dollars are worth less than crypto!

And that was WonderCon 2022!  After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, WonderCon made a triumphant return last spring, albeit with some scaling back.  Many attendees and exhibitors were still wary about a large-scale show being held, and rightfully so.  Still, those who did come really enjoyed themselves and I scored a few really cool books at the Stuart NG booth, so it all worked out.  Hopefully last week's show will have seen some of the pre-pandemic traditions return.  Guess we'll find out next week!

That's a wrap on the month of March CRAZIES, but not on the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown!  We still got one more post to go, and since we're ending one month on a high note, why not kick off another on an even higher note?  So be sure to come back next week and see how WonderCon 2022 went!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

WONDERCON 2023 IS HERE!!! BUT FIRST, WONDERCON 2019!!!

WELCOME TO WONDERCON WEEK CRAZIES!!!  Can't believe how quickly this week has come!  My room is booked, bags are packed and the truck's gassed up and running!  Yes sir, we are all ready to head up north and get the SoCal Con Season underway!  Of course, the show doesn't start for another two days, so how about we keep ourselves entertained with a look back at a WonderCon from more recent memory?  Doc Brown's time machine is set to 2019 and the speedometer's about to hit 88MPH!!!  Hold on to your Batman underoos kids, because the past is coming at us fast!  Enjoy...

Whatever happened to Doug Funny and Patty Mayonnaise?  They grew up, got hitched and now tour the comic con circuit signing autographs!

Cleverly topical humor for sure!

Newt Scamander is always on the lookout for new creatures big and small!

Always down for some classic Disney cosplay!  The Huntsman's costume is especially well done!

Don't let its awesomeness fool you.  The Powerglove totally sucked!

Beetlejuice and Lydia catch a breather at the Fountain Concourse!

The Agents of SHIELD were there keeping all of the various attendees in check!

Half of the Sinister Six showed up, but their infighting kept them from causing any real damage!

The Dragon Megazord, which in recent months has taken on a new kind of nostalgia.

These three are such great friends... Until dress colors come into play!

The REAL Batmobile as far as I'm concerned!

Bring It On isn't the first movie that comes to mind when one thinks of cosplay, but I do enjoy it when people think outside of the box!

Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, may I take your order?  This cosplayer's been showing up a lot to SoCal cons in recent years and I'm so glad he does.  Everywhere he goes, he brings the party with him!

Ms. Frizzle was there and ready to lead a new class of minors on some surprisingly dangerous field trips when you really think about it for a bit!

Just wouldn't be WonderCon without Mary and Bert!

Captain Planetpool!

The Blue Barracudas are always ready for the Hidden Temple!

FEED MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

And finally, the family that 'Pools together stays together!

And that was WonderCon 2019!  Bit of an off year for me, not because the show was bad.  Far from it actually.  The troubles of home I was having at the time followed me up there, making it really hard to relax and enjoy myself.  Still, it was a great year for cosplay and long box diving, and the impromptu dance parties that kept breaking out at the Fountain Concourse were so much fun!  If I were 15 years younger and braver, I'd totally join in on some of those!

That's all for this week folks, but fear not!  Even though WonderCon starts on Friday, the countdown still continues as I post these in advance, so there's a little more fun to be had in the coming weeks!  If you're going to Anaheim this weekend, please be courteous and respectful to others.  We're all adults here for the most part and need to act like it.  If we all follow the rules and just plain be kind to one another, there's no reason we can't all have a good time.  I'll be doing my best to update everybody on Twitter as the weekend progresses, but my phone service has long had a spotty record in that building, so here's hoping! Until next time, take care, stay safe and I'll see you all at WonderCon!

WONDERECON 2018: BACK TO THE FUTURE THROUGH THE PAST!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  We are just over a week away from WonderCon 2023!  Of course, before we get to THAT glorious weekend, we have to relive some of the fun of WonderCons past!  That's right folks, we got another one coming!  So fasten your seatbelts and make sure that the caps on your Code Red Mountain Dews are tight, because we are heading back to 2018 as the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown speeds on!  Enjoy...

Some people just can't be trusted to care for pets!

I'm not sure what has spawned this idolization of the late Bob Ross for a better part of the last 10 years, but I'm all for it!  Ross was a very positive person and a great champion of kindness through art.  He's like Fred Rogers if he had chosen painting over TV!

Mr. Freeze was a rather welcome presence at WonderCon that year.  It was hot as Hell!

Coraline chills with the Ninja Turtles in one of those super cool crossover moments that can only occur at a comic book convention!

Of course, Raphael got tired of all the attention and decided to go incognito with April for awhile!

Ah man, don't kill the only likable things to come out of The Last Jedi!

The Dread Pirate Roberts always travels fast!

She seems trustworthy.

HAVE A NICE DAY!!!

Dumbledore and Professor Sprout worked some real magic that weekend!

You're definitely not in Kansas anymore Dorothy!

The Dude abides...

Tom Servo found a new roommate after outgrowing Mike's studio apartment.

Finally, Him and Fuzzy Lumpkins were out looking to cause trouble, but thought better of it.

And that was WonderCon 2018!  Another really fun show that actually saw the first and so far only attempt at an offsite during the con.  Won't go into details other than it didn't work because they forgot about the security parameters around the Convention Center.  Probably just as well.  There really isn't enough space in the area to pull off such things like they do in San Diego.  Of course, my lasting impression of the show will always be my buddy Matt dropping a staggering amount of money on a book and limited edition poster and then finding a way to justify it as a tax write-off!  Some people are born geniuses folks!

Another week down in our CRAZY WonderCon Countdown, but fear not, for next week IS WonderCon itself and we'll be celebrating with even MORE pics than usual!  So be sure to come back and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!
