WONDERCON 2018!!! WILD AND WOOLY!!!

 

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOO HOO!!!  I am a month away from heading up to Anaheim and getting my Con Game on as WonderCon 2026 is that much closer!  It's so hard to keep calm when I know so much cool stuff is on the horizon!  Perhaps if we skip ahead to the pictures, it'll help calm all our nerves?  We're setting the Wayback Machine to 2018 folks!  Screw the lids down on your Code Red Mountain Dews, because the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown is launching fast!  Enjoy...

I gotta, say, it takes a real knowledge of global pop culture to cosplay as the Gyaos from the Gamera series!  What's that?  My editor (i.e., my niece) is telling me that this is actually a Game Of Thrones cosplay.  Carry on...

Definitely a top notch Aladdin costume!  The flying carpet prop was particularly creative!

I just can't understand why so many people are scared of clowns?  Just look at that face!

Handy as they are, I'm not sure Astro Mechs make the best frontline defense in a battle!

And finally, it just wouldn't be a Con of any kind without a Deadpool variant!  And they don't get any stranger than Elmo-pool!

And that was WonderCon 2018!  Another great show that saw lots of awesome cosplay and a rare attempt at an offsite by the Con.  The highlight for me though will always be witnessing my buddy Matt drop an insane amount of money for a couple of items that just blew my mind.  I too have dropped some serious coin at cons in recent years, but back then, I was in a much different tax bracket.  So thankful things are on the up for me these days!

WONDERCON 2018... BACK TO THE PAST FROM THE PRESENT TOWARDS THE FUTURE!!!

 

Welcome to March my CRAZIES!!!  And welcome back to the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown!  We're off to a pretty good start as we inch ever closer to the big show, now just three weeks away!  Now I know y'all are busy gulping down Shamrock Shakes right now, but it's important to take some time and relive the fun of WonderCons Past!  The year is 2018 and the place is Anaheim, CA.  Cap up those Code Red Mountain Dews folks, because all systems are go!  Enjoy...

When Sarah couldn't find a date to the Goblin King's Ball, she recruited the Caped Crusader to be her Dark Knight!

Daria didn't seem to be enjoying the crowds all that much, but then again, being miserable is kinda her thing!

These super freaks came to dance!  Ironically enough, Freakazoid premiered roughly around the same time as The Mask animated series as well as the Earthworm Jim cartoon.  With all three shows being very similar in tone and character (Freakazoid and EWJ largely used the same cast and crew and even aired on the same network!), they all kinda cancelled each other out!

Apparently the food courts in Wakanda aren't as relaxing as they are in Anaheim!

When Donatello came down with a bug just days before WonderCon started, the Turtles had to call in some favors to keep the quartet strong!  Luckily, Stephanie was available!

Crow and Tom Servo stopped by the bootleg movie booth to look for new experiments to riff on!

The courtyard outside of the Anaheim Convention Center's entrance is always buzzing with activity!  The perfect spot for cosplay photo ops!

I leave y'all this week with a frickin' evil genius that FINALLY got his sharks with laser beams attached to their heads...  It's Dr. Evil!

And that was WonderCon 2018!  A fun show with lots of incredible cosplay that I'll always remember best for my buddy Matt Eargle dropping an INSANE amount of money on a few pieces that he was able to justify as tax right offs!  Clearly I need to start paying better attention to some of my impulse buys!

While Fred recuperated from his dance injury,  Wilma, Barney and Betty explored more of modern society as we close out this week's Countdown.

And that was WonderCon 2018,  a very fun show that I'll always remember for my buddy Matt Eargle dropping an extraordinary amount of money an a couple of limited edition pieces that he was able to justify as a tax write-off!  If only I could've found a way to write-off the amount I spent on those Power Rangers toys I bought at SDCC last summer!

WONDERECON 2018: BACK TO THE FUTURE THROUGH THE PAST!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  We are just over a week away from WonderCon 2023!  Of course, before we get to THAT glorious weekend, we have to relive some of the fun of WonderCons past!  That's right folks, we got another one coming!  So fasten your seatbelts and make sure that the caps on your Code Red Mountain Dews are tight, because we are heading back to 2018 as the CRAZY WonderCon Countdown speeds on!  Enjoy...

Some people just can't be trusted to care for pets!

I'm not sure what has spawned this idolization of the late Bob Ross for a better part of the last 10 years, but I'm all for it!  Ross was a very positive person and a great champion of kindness through art.  He's like Fred Rogers if he had chosen painting over TV!

Mr. Freeze was a rather welcome presence at WonderCon that year.  It was hot as Hell!

And that was WonderCon 2018!  Another really fun show that actually saw the first and so far only attempt at an offsite during the con.  Won't go into details other than it didn't work because they forgot about the security parameters around the Convention Center.  Probably just as well.  There really isn't enough space in the area to pull off such things like they do in San Diego.  Of course, my lasting impression of the show will always be my buddy Matt dropping a staggering amount of money on a book and limited edition poster and then finding a way to justify it as a tax write-off!  Some people are born geniuses folks!
