THE CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOW: MAKING THE OLD NEW AGAIN!!!

Welcome back CRAZIES!!!  We are past the halfway point of June and that much closer to COMIC CON 2026!!!  I know it's a long wait, but thankfully, there are other things to keep us preoccupied while we late, like posts about COMIC CON!!!  So why don't we jump right in, shall we?

The Wayback Machine's dial is spinning uncontrollably here, but it seems to have finally settled of the year 2017, which makes perfect sense as we went to 2016 last week!  Put down that Cheeto dust encrusted Playstation controller and hold on tight, because the CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOWN is a go!

Here's another rare sight not often seen by casual attendees: Hall H in the buff!  I've Hall H's evolution from simple to intense to sheer spectacle over the decades.  It's insane to see the levels it's reached from its relatively humble origins

Tin Fish Square in the Gaslamp Quarter gets the NBC treatment!  Although there were still activations last year, it was downright shocking to many that NBC weren't the sponsors.  They practically owned the space they ran it for so long!

A pretty cool walk-thru activation for the theatrical release of Kong: Skull Island!

Can't be easy running an offsite activation for a show you know is going fail...

A lot can be said about the DCEU both good and bad, but I think we can all agree that Ben Affleck's Batman was definitely among the highlights.

Nickelodeon put out a call for a massive Hey Arnold cosplay photoshoot, and these girls were all that showed up.  I don't think this is an indictment on the show's lasting legacy as much as it is an indictment on Nickelodeon for hiding all their beloved old IP's to the point that people are forgetting them and new audiences can't rediscover them!

Even Superman gets tired of flying at some point.

The beloved and much missed Gentle Giant booth.  Though technically still present as part of the newer Jazzwares booth, the new company just doesn't compare.

A certain group of folks who don't enjoy comics and movies took to the streets and began harassing folks Downtown.  Unfortunately for them, they didn't count on the Hip Hop Stormtrooper and his pals showing up to upstage them and make them look foolish!

They got into a lot of trouble because they got high...

The beginning of the end for the Nintendo Lounge.  This was the year they started doing reservation-only and it just jammed things up.

Modern MST3K has been a mixed bag as best, but Joel Hodgson will ALWAYS be the man to me!

I don't even wanna know how Tyrone Biggums got Wonder Woman's shield!

And finally, we'll end this week with Deadpool, who apparently was the original Brony!

And that was Comic Con 2017!  This one's becoming more of a blur now sadly, but I do believe it was a fun show.  Lots of cool cosplay and I definitely snagged some cool exclusives.  Sometimes not being able to remember much has its positives.  If I can't remember anything bad happening, then it must not have!

Another week down as we head towards July, but don't fret!  We'll be back next week with more past COMIC CON action to close out June properly with the CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOWN!!!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

MOVIN' RIGHT ALONG TO 2017 WITH THE CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOWN!!!

We have come to the end...  OF JUNE!!!  That's right CRAZIES, you ain't getting rid of me that easily!  We are less than a month away from Comic Con 2025 and I am totally hawked up on excitement, Wild Cherry Pepsi and Deep Fried Twinkies (It's still Fair Season too), so let's just cut right to the chase!  It's 2017, it's Comic Con, and if you haven't put on a clean pair of Spider-man Underoos yet, well then you only have yourself to blame really.  The CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOWN IS A GO!!!

WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB!!!

By Grabthar's Hammer!  What a cosplay!

My niece, Kristen, hamming it up in a Kong skull at the Kong: Skull Island offsite!

Celebrity guest were all the rage at the Petco Park Interactive Zone in 2017, as was the Pepsi Food Truck that got shut down for not having a proper food handler's permit!

Typical Red Shirt...

Great Lucha Family cosplay!

The infamous Game Of Thrones photo op at the Omni Hotel where folks stood in line for over EIGHT HOURS just to get their pictures taken on the throne made of swords.  I don't care how cool the show is, NOTHING is worth that much of one's valuable time at SDCC.  The most insulting part of it, many still didn't get in!

Forget Skeleton Crew, somebody greenlight Endor 911 already!

The old Hasbro Toy Shop booth with a VERY rare sight: NO LINES!!!  Why?  What caused this anomaly?  Simple!  All the big ticket items sold out by Friday afternoon.  I just walked in and bought what I wanted! (A Visionaries collectible for those curious)

For a few years, Laika Animation put on a pretty cool offsite that even started a week before SDCC did.  But, as their films tapered off, so too did their promotional budgets.  This would be their last trip to San Diego.

Damn, yo!  I like Jack In The Box too, but not THAT much!!!

The Silver Snakes, The Green Monkeys and the Blue Barracudas...
Three legendary teams from a legendary hidden temple...

Jonah and Servo.  They could really use Joel right now!

And finally, how we ALL feel after a weekend at SDCC...

And that was SDCC 2017!  Another year that I know I did cool stuff at, but it's all just a blur right now.  Some rough months followed this show, which might explain why I don't remember much, but as the pictures show, a good time was had by all and I still got a lot of that swag!

And that's a wrap on June 2025, but the CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOWN will be back next week, providing some early fireworks for your 4th of July weekend!  So be sure to come back and give it a look!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!

COMIC CON AND COSPLAY... AN AMERICAN INSTITUTION!!!

Welcome to July CRAZIES!!!  We've made it!  Comic Con 2024 is here!!!  In three weeks!  I know, I know, bad blogger, bad!  But we really are that close to the big week, and since I'm insanely busy right now, let's just get right to it, shall we?

We've set the Wayback machine to 2017 and are already passing through space and time as the San Diego Convention Center appears through the clearing fog.  Hold on to your Batman Underoos because the CRAZY Comic Con Countdown is a go!  Enjoy...

The White Spy enjoys himself the obscure wonders that Shout Factory always delivers!

The Watchmen are on the hunt for Zack Snyder!

Nerdist followed up their insanely awesome 2016 offering at Petco Park with a very subdued downgrade to the back of the Marriott Marquis in 2017.  Not gonna lie folks, this one was a huge disappointment.

A great year for the Petco Park Interactive Zone that saw live interviews with celebrities, the addition of food trucks to the area and some really cool immersive activations, including a full-service Jack In The Box!  Of course, the real highlight was the Pepsi Food Truck that forgot to get a food handlers permit and thus were only allowed to serve ice cream floats and already-baked Wookie Cookies.  It was a bummer for sure.  I actually wanted to try a ramen taco!

Damn Guile, quit skipping arm day bro!

For those in need of some nightmare fuel...

I only vaguely remember passing by this offsite that seemed to be somewhere on either Island or J St and have no idea what it was.  I'll have to see if any of the SDCC Blog or Parks and Cons crew remembers what this was?

It's no secret that religious zealots always show up to SDCC and try to kill everybody's buzz, but this particular year saw a pretty classic moment.  As they were standing there threatening the masses with eternal damnation, the Hiphop Stormtrooper showed up with his boombox and just started blasting some jams as this girl started dancing!  I kid you not when I say that seconds after I took the above pic, the dude holding the sign dropped it and started dancing with her!  The laughs and cheers were deafening!  See?  We're all sinners in the end!

Ghost In The Shell cosplay is certainly a nice break from the usual anime cosplay fare of Gokus, Rukias and Narutos that always roam the exhibit hall.

Found him!

Just another face in a red jumpsuit...

The Adult Swim Carnival!  It was years before I could finally get in as my nephew and niece weren't old enough to enter, but the wait was worth it!  Just a bummer this weird toy horse thingy wasn't there anymore by the time 2019 rolled around!

Finn Balor cosplay!  He initially won the Masquerade Ball, but the judges had to strip him of his title after he immediately injured himself while celebrating his win!

We'll end things with the Funko Conan O'Brien photo op!  It can't be overstated how much fun and energy his shows brought to SDCC, not to mention jobs to the hundreds of stagehands and hosts that made the shows happen.  It's grossly unfair that Conan ain't on TV anymore.

And that was Comic Con 2017!  Certainly an amazing year as far as panels and cosplay went, though some of the offsites were downgrades from the previous year.  It was my second year setting up the LED Wall for Lucasfilm which in and of itself was an adventure, but that's a tale for another day.  All in all, it was a fun show!

That's all for this week folks, but fear not!  We got more of the same coming next week as we delve into Comic Con 2018, so be sure to come back give it all a once over!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and please use caution this 4th of July week!  I know it's customary to celebrate the birth of our nation by blowing up a small chunk of it, but please leave that to the professionals!  I'll catch y'all later!

THE 2023 CRAZY COMIC CON COUNTDOWN HITS JULY!!!

Welcome to July CRAZIES!!!  Hopefully you weren't partying TOO hard yesterday and managed to have a nice safe time during your 4th of July BBQ's!  Now that we've cleared that holiday and the San Diego County Fair, it's time to get to the meat of the matter: COMIC CON 2023 IS TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!  I know y'all are excited, as am I, so let's just calm down and dive into the pics, this time from SDCC 2017!  Each one was carefully picked with YOU in mind!  No, really!  The CRAZY Comic Con Countdown continues!  Enjoy...

Walter and the Dude abide in the Gaslamp!

Hey!  It's my SDCC home away from home: The Hasbro booth!

Poor Butter Bot.  In any dimension, Rick's a prick!

Sorry TRON.  Haven't seen the MCP since anti-virus software became a thing!

Hey!  It's Cambot!  Many MST3K fans are eager to build and show off their Crow and Tom Servo models, and rightfully so as they are tough builds, especially Crow.  But nobody ever builds Cambot!  Could be because this is his fifth incarnation.  Consistency is key!  Now if only somebody would bring a Gypsy puppet!

It's always so nice of the folks at the FX Experience to provide us with unfiltered hose water to refill our water bottles with.  It's more than the Convention Center is doing these days!

Xfinity had some sort of deal going on at the Petco Park Interactive Zone.  It looked pretty cool, but the crowds were pretty intense.  I do recall them giving away TV dinners though!

By Grabthar's Hammer, what a great Dr. Lazarus cosplay!

The poor souls at the Hall H line.  Folks going this year might not have as much trouble getting in this time around.

It's walk-around Funko Conan O'Brien!  God I wish he still did shows here.  He brought such a great energy not just to the Con, but to the whole city as well.  Maybe someday, after the executives at Warner Discovery will be reprimanded for their insanely bad decision making, Conan will return!  Hey, a guy can dream, right?

When he's NOT looking the other way, Mighty Mouse is here to save the day!

Pretty cool to see Rob Schamberger in person creating one of his amazing pro wrestling paintings at the Mattel booth!  Always look forward to their new WWF/E figures!

Patty and Selma apparently have no idea that smoking and Iguanas aren't allowed in the Convention Center.  Sorry Jub Jub!

Finally, the Tick wants to leave you all today with a word of wisdom: SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!

And that was Comic Con 2017!  That whole year is such a blur now, probably because some not-so-great days came up after the show.  But Comic Con itself was a lot of fun.  Good year for swag and offsites too.  Think I may have even gotten into a panel!  Good times, good times.

That's all for today, but never fear!  More past fun is coming up as the CRAZY Comic Con Countdown returns next week with a journey to 20018, so be sure to come back and check it out!  Until then, take care, stay safe and I'll catch y'all later!
