COMIC CON AND COSPLAY... AN AMERICAN INSTITUTION!!!

Welcome to July CRAZIES!!!  We've made it!  Comic Con 2024 is here!!!  In three weeks!  I know, I know, bad blogger, bad!  But we really are that close to the big week, and since I'm insanely busy right now, let's just get right to it, shall we?

We've set the Wayback machine to 2017 and are already passing through space and time as the San Diego Convention Center appears through the clearing fog.  Hold on to your Batman Underoos because the CRAZY Comic Con Countdown is a go!  Enjoy...

The White Spy enjoys himself the obscure wonders that Shout Factory always delivers!

The Watchmen are on the hunt for Zack Snyder!

Nerdist followed up their insanely awesome 2016 offering at Petco Park with a very subdued downgrade to the back of the Marriott Marquis in 2017.  Not gonna lie folks, this one was a huge disappointment.

A great year for the Petco Park Interactive Zone that saw live interviews with celebrities, the addition of food trucks to the area and some really cool immersive activations, including a full-service Jack In The Box!  Of course, the real highlight was the Pepsi Food Truck that forgot to get a food handlers permit and thus were only allowed to serve ice cream floats and already-baked Wookie Cookies.  It was a bummer for sure.  I actually wanted to try a ramen taco!

Damn Guile, quit skipping arm day bro!

For those in need of some nightmare fuel...

I only vaguely remember passing by this offsite that seemed to be somewhere on either Island or J St and have no idea what it was.  I'll have to see if any of the SDCC Blog or Parks and Cons crew remembers what this was?

It's no secret that religious zealots always show up to SDCC and try to kill everybody's buzz, but this particular year saw a pretty classic moment.  As they were standing there threatening the masses with eternal damnation, the Hiphop Stormtrooper showed up with his boombox and just started blasting some jams as this girl started dancing!  I kid you not when I say that seconds after I took the above pic, the dude holding the sign dropped it and started dancing with her!  The laughs and cheers were deafening!  See?  We're all sinners in the end!

Ghost In The Shell cosplay is certainly a nice break from the usual anime cosplay fare of Gokus, Rukias and Narutos that always roam the exhibit hall.

Found him!

Just another face in a red jumpsuit...

The Adult Swim Carnival!  It was years before I could finally get in as my nephew and niece weren't old enough to enter, but the wait was worth it!  Just a bummer this weird toy horse thingy wasn't there anymore by the time 2019 rolled around!

Finn Balor cosplay!  He initially won the Masquerade Ball, but the judges had to strip him of his title after he immediately injured himself while celebrating his win!

We'll end things with the Funko Conan O'Brien photo op!  It can't be overstated how much fun and energy his shows brought to SDCC, not to mention jobs to the hundreds of stagehands and hosts that made the shows happen.  It's grossly unfair that Conan ain't on TV anymore.

And that was Comic Con 2017!  Certainly an amazing year as far as panels and cosplay went, though some of the offsites were downgrades from the previous year.  It was my second year setting up the LED Wall for Lucasfilm which in and of itself was an adventure, but that's a tale for another day.  All in all, it was a fun show!

That's all for this week folks, but fear not!  We got more of the same coming next week as we delve into Comic Con 2018, so be sure to come back give it all a once over!  Until next time, take care, stay safe and please use caution this 4th of July week!  I know it's customary to celebrate the birth of our nation by blowing up a small chunk of it, but please leave that to the professionals!  I'll catch y'all later!
